End of year pause (5 min version)

This is the 5 minute version of the end of year pause – it’s designed to support slowing down and finding your bearings when this feels particularly tricky after a year on the go.

5 minutes can feel like an ocean of time, so now you’re here, I hope this time feels supportive.

The end of year pause shares some questions about your year. Before you start, consider how you’d like to approach this – would you prefer to think, write or type your responses?

You today

  • If it feels comfortable to, take a moment to notice your body – where is there tension and ease today? Breathe into the things you feel for a moment
  • What colours sum up how you’re feeling now?
  • As you notice more, respond to what your body needs – perhaps warmth, water, or a bit of movement

Your year

  • Looking around the space you are in, choose an object that reflects what this year has been like for you
  • In what ways does this object reflect how your year has been?
  • What or who has supported you through the year?
  • How has this year left you feeling?

Looking ahead

  • What are you looking forward to next year?
  • Create a posture or shape with your body that reflects how you’d like to be next year
  • What does this posture say about your year ahead/
  • What does your body and brain definitely need more of next year?

To close

  • Place your hands on your heart and take a moment to thank your body for all it’s done and felt this year
  • What has shifted since starting the exercise?
  • What would you like to do next to finish well?

However your year has been, I hope this chance to pause and find your bearings has been helpful.

And wishing you really well as we close this year and head into a new one.
